The biggest question when leaving school So what do you want to do when you leave school?

As a young person they are now living in a different world in the sense of holding down the same job for the next 30 + years. It is now expected that by the time your child celebrates their 38th Birthday they would have had at least 14 different jobs in that time. In saying this, your child will also have the experience and opportunities to explore career possibilities, revise and advance their existing skills along their own Career Journey as society continues to change with rising opportunities.

As a parent you play an important role in supporting your child to explore and consider the full range of Career options available to them when they are trying to decide what they want to do once they leave school.

One of the most important things you can do is help your child to understand the link between what they are doing at school, their interests and their career opportunities/pathways in the future. Take the time to talk to your child about their future. Ask your child about what they’d like to do once they leave school, or have they thought about what they would like to do?

Remember their answers may not be what you want to hear – it is still very important to listen to their ideas, and have an open mind about what they are interested in doing. This way you can both identify their interests, strengths and skills.

In doing this you need up to date information on the options and pathways that are available to your young person now a days. Please use the information and links below to help assist you help them.
